NIMS Training Course Information

As requested by the Garland Office of Emergency Management, all Garland RACES appointees were to have completed IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 by the end of 2006. All new and re-appointed appointees must complete IS-100 within their first 3 months, IS-700 and IS-200 within 9 months. IS-800 is requested of all appointees and is required for Radio Officers and CAT Team members. These course are free to RACES appointees. When you register, register as RACES. For those that may have completed IS-195 in the past, there are enough changes that you need to complete IS-100. FEMA in their December 2006 recommendations for NGO's has added IS-800 to the list. We are now being requested to complete IS-800 as an option for all appointees.

IS-100 - Introduction to the Incident Command System
The course specifically discusses major ICS functions and their primary responsibilities, ICS organizational units, span of control, major incident facilities and the function of each, what an Incident Action Plan is and how it is used, and the common responsibilities associated with incident assignments from the Federal disaster response workforce perspective.

IS-200 - Basic Incident Command System
A disaster scenario threads throughout the course to describe the common responsibilities associated with incident assignments from a Federal disaster response workforce perspective. IS-100 is a pre-requisite to the IS-200 course.

IS-700.a - National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
This course introduces NIMS and takes approximately three hours to complete. It explains the purpose, principles, key components and benefits of NIMS. The course also contains "Planning Activity" screens giving you an opportunity to complete some planning tasks during this course. The planning activity screens are printable so that you can use them after you complete the course.

IS-800.B - National Response Plan (NRP), an Introduction
The National Response Plan, or NRP, describes how the Federal Government will work in concert with State, local, and tribal governments and the private sector to respond to disasters. This course introduces the NRP. It is intended for DHS and other Federal staff responsible for implementing the NRP, and Tribal, State, local and private sector emergency management professionals.
